Jay Sean's new album Out Now!
The suspense of the past weeks is finally over: Jay Sean's long-awaited new album 'My Own Way' on 2Point9/Jayded label has finally hit the stores and is also available to download on iTunes.
The release follows weeks of chart-success for the British Asian R&B singer and songwriter: His first single from the album, ‘Ride It’, entered the charts at #11 in January and then lodged itself in the Top 20 for a month selling more than 70,000 units.
Sean's second single ‘Maybe’ made it to the Top 5 of the Pysical singles charts, just a few copies behind the Madonna & Justin Timberlake duet, & Usher’s first single in 2 years. This an incredible achievement in the UK making him the first British Asian artist to have had five Top 15 hits.
Industry experts are predicting a great year for the Hounslow-born British Asian singer who has come a long way since his debut single ‘Dance With You,’ (2003). His debut album ‘Me Against Myself’ (2004) sold 300,000 copies worldwide and went 5 times platinum in South East Asia.
Sean's album release came with a hectic promotional schedule for the star with appearances at the Love Music Hate Racism Festival, The Zee Cine Awards and BBC 1Xtra Live. His ‘signing’ sessions at Zavvi record shops across the country resulted in stores having to shut down due to the huge numbers of fans ransacking the shelves.
Produced by a dream team of top music industry experts such as Rishi Rich, Timbaland, Ben McKnight, J-Remy (Fabolous, DJ Clue) and Duro (Mariah Carey, Jay Z, Mary J Blige, Rhianna), the album features lyrics written by Sean and was recorded in New York and London.
“Lyrically, there’s social commentary on tracks such as ‘Good Enough For You,’ which debates the problems of mixed-race relationships. But I didn’t want to make an issue-heavy record", says Sean. "Much of it is based on what I get up to when I’m out and about. It refers to the games people play across the dancefloor – how you can catch someone’s eye and accept a challenge that lasts the rest of the evening”.
